The Veteran Memorial Monument has been used for many veteran events. The most exciting event is on Memorial Day. Veterans run a program that draws people from all over. Generally, at least 200 people attend the event. There is a master of ceremonies that coordinates the event with an array of speakers. The local VFW has a cookout at their facility and Covington has a parade. Veterans from all wars attend with some dressed in different period uniforms. A local band plays military music. The finale is a 21 gun salute.
Thousands of people come that weekend to visit loved one at cemetery. They bring thousands of flowers in tribute. The cemetery looks beautiful.
Miami Memorial Park wants to thank everyone that has donated to the restoration of the Veteran Memorial Monument. Restoration and maintenance would not be possible without the generous donations received. Thank you very much.
If you wish to donate to the Veteran Memorial Continued Maintenance Fund, contact Lora L. Aleo, Chief Executive Officer and President, at 937-473-3038.
